Road to Endgame: Where the MCU Will Go After Endgame

We are nearing the end of this particular journey with Avengers: Endgame and Marvel are keeping their slate of films under wraps after the release of Endgame. However, we all know that this film is not going to be the end of the MCU, merely just a shuffle of the characters and stories going forward. We cannot fully know what is going to happen in the MCU after the events of Avengers: Endgame, but by the rumoured and confirmed list of upcoming projects by Marvel, we can see what is going on in Marvel’s head.

The franchises that seem to be done include dealing with Iron Man, Captain America and Hulk. I do not see them making any major role in a film after Endgame, and I would also include Thor in this but now there are small rumours of Thor 4 being in the works with Taiki Waititi back to direct.

There are several characters that are speculated to be getting a sequel film, some of which are currently in the state of “dusted” from the events in Infinity War. Whilst Doctor Strange may be the odd one out as a good box office hit, it is not the scale of Captain Marvel and Black Panther which both made over $1 billion in the box office and are destined to have a sequel.

However, it is the confirmed list of the projects that will shape where Marvel is taking the MCU. This in particular lends to the side characters who they are further developing on the Disney+ streaming site. This includes characters such as Hawkeye, the Winter Soldier, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Vision and Loki. Now, some of these characters are currently either “dusted” or dead, which means we are not sure whether some of these projects are prequels or sequels in regards to Endgame. My guess is that aside from the Hawkeye project, all of the shows are prequels and take place on the lead up to Infinity War. I could be wrong on that, but that is my hope and prediction as of right now.

There are also films that have been confirmed to be released after Avengers: Endgame. The big one is obviously Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is already having promotional material released. We do also finally have Guardians of the Galaxy 3 going ahead with James Gunn directing once again, and there are still major discussions about the upcoming Black Widow film, which we still don’t know at this point if it is a sequel or prequel.

We do not need to wait long to potentially get a timeline for the upcoming Phase 4 of the MCU. My guess is that Kevin Feige will make sure that a locked timetable for the release of all of the Marvel projects will be announced at D23 in August this year, after Phase 3 is finished with Spider-Man: Far From Home.
