NON-SPOILER Film Review: Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of 22 films in the MCU, and a direct follow up to last year’s blockbuster, Avengers: Infinity War. This film follows the Avengers after the events of the snap, which caused half of living creatures across the universe to vanish. The team have to deal with the devastation of the event, and plan a way to reverse the events of the film.

This will be a shorter review, as I do not want to give away a single spoiler for this film.

I will not be going into detail on any of the performances in this film, as it would go into spoiler territory, by wow. Just wow. It is clear to see that this franchise has meant so much to these actors, given by their performances alone. This is the moment where we get to see the main six Avengers shine in particular, and each of them get some fantastic moments throughout.
This is by far one of the most entertaining films in the MCU. This is not a straight-up heavy drama as the subject matter would suggest, but it manages to find a balance between the drama and the comedy. Particular characters, including Thor and Ant-Man, bring in the light relief that makes the film continually entertaining.

This is a very clever script done by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Despite the immense amount of pressure they had to wrap this film up and create a coherent story, they manage to do so. Three hours may feel like a long time, but it flies by very quickly. This story needed the three hour run-time, and every scene was necessary and drove the plot along. Sorry guys, there are no toilet breaks in this film.
There are so many references and easter eggs in this film. From smaller lines to moments of reflecting on the past, it is truly the journey of 22 films and 11 years of the MCU. This film perfectly captured that emotion and placed it all into this film. Avengers: Endgame would not hit as hard for those who have not caught up with the franchise, this is a film made for the fans.

I was expecting to fully enjoy this film, be satisfied by the ending and have it be a solid conclusion to the story. I was not expecting this film to be this good though. You know a movie is good if I cannot find a single moment to go to the toilet, including in the second screening. This may have overtaken Captain America: The Winter Soldier to be my favourite comic book film, and that is the biggest praise that I can give a comic book film. I cannot wait to watch this over and over and over again.

Have you seen Avengers: Endgame yet? Did you love it just as much as me, or did you find some issues with the film? Comment down below, but let’s not talk spoilers.
