Avengers: Endgame – What You Missed on the First Viewing

WARNING: As this is going to go into details on what is in Avengers: Endgame, this will be filled with spoilers for the film. Do not go further if you have not seen the film.

Most of us have now seen the film, and some of us have seen it numerous times. Me? I’ve seen it three times now, and plan to see it way more. With every viewing that you go to, you will pick up on new things that you did not realise beforehand. Most of these are either one liners or one single shots that mean something, yet is not made clear until you catch the film a second time. Here is a list of things that I have caught that you may have missed in Avengers: Endgame.

Hawkeye’s foot cuff: This is the same cuff that Scott Lang had after Captain America: Civil War where they refused to sign the Accords, and therefore being placed in house arrest. Unlike with Scott Lang, it seems clear that Clint Barton is happy to be on house arrest and not be waiting for the cuff to come off, as it means that he gets to spend time with his family. I am wondering what happened to the cuff by the time he takes on the Ronin role, and if the cuff is perhaps what led Natasha to find him in Tokyo.

Joe Russo’s cameo: I picked this up immediately, but I am not sure whether a lot of other people will have picked up on this. Director Joe Russo can be seen talking to Steve Rogers in a counselling meeting that takes place straight after the “five years later” card comes up. This was a nice way of putting a cameo in, and not making it feel obvious or out of place.

Natasha’s last words to the Avengers: Whilst she still gets to speak to Nebula, Rhodey and Clint on their mission, it is the last thing she says before they enter the quantum realm that hits hard. She says “See you in a minute”, which is nothing out of the ordinary for a first watch. However, it becomes sad in a second watch when you realise that she will not get to see Steve, Tony, Professor Hulk or any of the other Avengers again. It hits harder that she is the one who says that line in particular.

The kid in Iron Man 3 appears: Out of everyone who turned up to Tony Stark’s funeral, it is one teenage boy that left some people confused. That character has been confirmed to be Harley Keener, the young boy that was helped by Iron Man in his final film of his trilogy. Played by the same actor, Ty Simpkins, this small nod to the third film made total sense and was a nice tribute to add to the touching scene.

The “end credits” scene: I was told that there was no end-credit scene for Avengers: Endgame, so for the first two times I did not wait to watch it. However, when I heard that there was a mysterious sound that played, I stuck around on my third viewing. The sound does not indicate a future film, but rather goes back to the very first film in the MCU. The sound is of metal hitting metal, and is the exact sound of when Tony Stark was making his Iron Man suit in the very first film. This was a perfect tribute to the character which was simple, but also reminded the audience that stuck to the end of the credits who helped create this universe.

Is there anything that I have still missed from Avengers: Endgame yet? Did you miss any of these in repeat viewings? How many times do you plan to see the film? Let me know in the comments sections below and let’s have a discussion. Just remember one thing: don’t spoil the Endgame for anyone who hasn’t been able to see it yet.
