Academy Awards 2021: Oscar Predictions (November 17th 2020)

Soul (2020) - credit: Disney

I am in a predicament as to where to go with these predictions for the Oscars. Whilst I want to have faith that Judas and the Black Messiah will be eligible, there is simply not enough support or proof for that from Warner Bros., so I have taken it off my predictions for the time being. I have still not seen a majority of the main contenders, and the likes of Nomadland and News of the World are getting their UK release dates postponed, meaning I have no idea when I will get to watch these films. I may be seeing the likes of Mank and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom soon, but nobody seems to agree on what is happening there, and that’s not even bringing up the films I have seen, such as Ammonite and Hillbilly Elegy.

Quite simply, my predictions are a mess right now. There are films there that I doubt will do as well as I am predicting right now, such as Minari and Da 5 Bloods, but I don’t know what else I can do right now. I have decided to use this space as well to push some FYC love to the contenders that have a small chance at breaking through in their categories that I hope get some support, and these picks may seem obvious just glancing at the list (I know Best Actor is a packed race, but give Mads Mikkelsen a chance please).
